WARNING
We are working to progressively install air conditioning across all museum sections.
During this period of an exceptional heatwave, several free chilled water stations have been set up along the route to refill your water bottles, and the ventilation system has been temporarily enhanced with additional cooling devices.

We recommend visiting the second-floor galleries in the morning or late afternoon. Please avoid the most critical hours – from 12:30 to 16.00 – when the sections on the lower floors and those equipped with air conditioning (Egyptian Collection, Villa dei Papiri from Herculaneum, and the temporary exhibition “Parthenope: The Siren and the City”) are more comfortable.

If necessary, in order to protect workers’ and visitors’ health, some rooms might be temporarily closed in the most critical hours (12.30 – 16.00).

For safety reasons on Free Admission Days Secret room, Egyptian and Magna Graecia galleries are closed to the public.

Temporary closures

The Farnese sculptures gallery will be partially closed to the public until further notice. Access will be guaranteed to rooms 1-7 and 25-29 (check the museum map), which have reopened to the public with a new lighting system and, only at the weekend, to the Gems.

In the framework of the project “The MANN and the environment: energy efficiency works for a sustanaible museum”, funded by the Next Generation EU programme “PNRR”, the Farnese collection is undergoing a serie of works aimed at improving the lighting system, in terms of energy saving and emphasis on the artefacts on display. We apologize for the inconvenience, still we believe in a more and more welcoming museum, able to cope with today’s challenges: in order to do all this, we also need your help!

Galleries currently closed to the public for refurbishment:
Epigraphic collection

Please note that some galleries may close without notice due to unforeseen and unforeseeable circumstances, always related to protection and security reasons of the museum facilities and its heritage. In these cases, the ticket office at the entrance will be promptly informed.

No refunds will be allowed due to the abovementioned exceptional event.
