Fuoriclassico - Manifesto

fuoriclassico

The ambiguous contemporaneity of antiquity.

Conversations sounds visions

The word Fuoriclassico plays with the etymological root of “classic”: it derives from “class” and it indicates the state of belonging to a rank, the possession of a superior dignity (in Greek: axioma).

But the word Fuoriclassico also refers back to the impossibility of a definition, to elusiveness that removes any classic from us, the time of which is always out of our range: a past or a future with which the classics are contemporaneous (Giuseppe Pontiggia has written about it).

Yet, the fact that a classic escapes us, and it gets out of the wear and the tear of time, does not mean that it is not close to us. So far, so close, we could say, to the point that the classic impregnates our mind and language, getting in its turn nourishment from us, from the questions that we ask it and that also modify its meaning deeply.

The series – of conversations, readings and shows, is divided into two parts:

Ancient tales,

dedicated to the traditions of myth, the complex, virtually infinite, of its versions. Therefore, myth is assumed according to a “jazz” acceptation: a theme, a bearing structure, a proliferation of versions, which could make it hardly recognizable.

They are indeed these versions – often vulgar or ironic, let us think about comic or contemporary art – to preserve the whole potential of myth.

About law (Peri nomou),

dedicated to legal events, justice and proceedings. Events which will not be dealt with in an antiquated key but letting the past meet the modern (in the widest meaning of the word, including the contemporary), highlighting 6 oth radical discontinuity and more or less ambiguous memories.
