“Lares familiares”, by Sonia Lenzi
Curated by Gerry Badger and Marco De Gemmis
The sense of family and the sacred in Naples has gone through the millennia and it persists apparently intact. In ancient times the “lares familiares” were worshipped at home. They were considered to be protectors of homes and people who lived there. Now they are kept in the museums or in their warehouses, where the privacy of the home spaces is lost, but contemporary lares seem to be placed in the votive niches of Naples. By means of photography, the past is put in touch with the present that is often extremely difficult. Texts in the catalogue by Gerry Badger, Marta De Gemmis e Claudia Procentese.
The exhibition will stay open until December 8th, 2016
